Description

This interior design project was conceived to meet the needs of an advanced-mature couple in a phase following the departure of their children. They were looking for an environment that would reflect the serenity and well-being of this phase of life, as well as a versatile and welcoming space ready to receive the family and grandchildren.

The two-story apartment, along with its roof garden, is characterized by the harmonious interaction of two main materials: wood and marble. Wood provides a sense of warmth that evokes a mature stage of life and permeates every corner of the home. On the other hand, marble is not only physically different from wood but also stands out for its strong and energetic character. The strategic choice of marble contributes to creating a diaphanous and neat environment, giving the whole home an unmistakable elegance.

The lighting, conceived as an integral design strategy, manages the transitions between materials and defines the geometries of the space. In the living area, the lighting lines descend as pieces of marble inserted into the wooden lambrin and, in turn, descend to the floor as pieces of wood integrated into the marble floor. This harmonious sequence configures a series of 'staples' that embrace the living area and open up to the terrace and the exterior.

The staircase, conceived as a central element, takes on a sculptural character that integrates the different materialities present in the project. It acts as a link between the different levels of the apartment and as a synthesis of the strategies identified in the overall design of the project.

Finally, much of the furniture has been designed with the purpose of offering the user spaces to store the literature accumulated over the years, reflecting the knowledge and wisdom acquired until this new stage of family life.
