Description
This project was designed to meet the needs and desires of an elderly couple at a stage in life when their children had already left home. They sought an environment that would reflect the serenity and well-being of this phase, while also providing a versatile and welcoming space for family visits. Flexibility in opening and closing spaces was deemed essential in defining boundaries within the design, aiming to achieve a harmonious balance between the tranquility of a new life stage and the vibrancy of family gatherings.
The two-story apartment and its terraces are defined by the use of two main materials: wood and stone. Wood, applied to the flooring, walls, and much of the built-in furniture, conveys a sense of warmth that resonates with the maturity of this stage of life. In contrast, marble introduces a smoother and more energetic character. This combination creates a refined yet lively atmosphere, giving the home a sense of material elegance without compromising freshness.
Lighting, conceived as an integral design element, facilitates the transition between materials and defines the geometries of the space. In the living area, lighting lines extend downward as marble details embedded in the wooden walls, transitioning seamlessly into the floor, where wooden elements integrate with the marble surface. This harmonious interplay forms a series of "staples" that distinguish the overall ambiance.
The design of the project's surfaces and volumes achieves a distinctive balance, employing diagonal angles without disrupting the perception of the purity and rationality of the geometry.
The staircase, designed as a central feature, takes on a sculptural quality by integrating the various materials used throughout the project. It serves as both a connector between the apartment's different levels and a synthesis of the design strategies implemented across the space.
